![]() ![]() Both trails can be used by horses and dogs. In the summer both trails have gorgeous wildflowers and the beautiful sound of the running water along the way. At the end of the Trail when you return is the Bavarian Inn that offers hearty German dishes, beer, wine, and more. It definitely did not seem as consistently steep as the Bull of the Woods Pasture Trail. The majority of the trail climbs upward, but there are several areas where it is near level to give you a break. ![]() The trail reaches its summit at 11,142 feet with a climb of more than 700 feet per mile. Williams Lake Hike (5+ stars): Note that this review is about the trail going only to the lake and turning around (without continuing on to Wheeler Peak).This trail is known to be the most popular in the Taos Ski Valley. Some parts are rocky (but not large rocks). For the average hiker it isn't too bad to navigate. It is especially challenging if you are not used to the altitude. If you are not in good shape it may be a bit challenging at times. The trail climbs from 9,439 feet of elevation to 10,866 feet of elevation at a rate of 680 feet per mile. ![]() The Bull of the Woods Pasture is approximately 1.8 miles one way from this point. The trail begins at the Taos Ski Valley parking lot. I recommend at least 3 hours or more so you can hang out at the top and enjoy a picnic and the gorgeous view!īull of the Woods Pasture Hike (4 stars): Note that this review is about the trail going only to the pasture and turning around (without continuing on to Wheeler Peak). If you are in town for a few days you may want to give your body a chance to acclimate to the altitude before doing a lot of hiking in the area. The hike is less difficult despite the higher altitude. The destination is beautiful! The trail is more scenic. Our vote is for Williams Lake over Bull of the Woods Pasture. ![]()
